FREE FIGHT JUST PREVENTED

LONDON, August 9. Only the : intereveiitiorr of other members prevented a free fight i n the House of Commons last night between two Scottish members—Mr Neil Maclean (Labour, Govan) .and Mr George Buchanan (1.L.P., Gorbals). llio affair started after a division had been taken on a motion by Mr J. McGovern (1.L.P., Shettleston) protesting .against the* • refusal of “'Sir Godfrey . Collins (Scottish Secretary) to receive a deputation from hungermarchers who recently demonstrated in Edinburgh. ■ r

The motion yvas defeated by 122 to 3, only Mr McGovern, 1 Air Maxton and Air Buchanan voting for it. Shotly after the- figures had. been announced Captain Afargesson (Chief Whip) threw a paper across the table to' Air Maclean.'

Air. Buchanan shouted,; ‘‘Tory orders! Traitors!”

Mr Alaclean rushed down the floor towards Air Buchanan and' flourished the paper at Air Buchanan. Mr Alaclean then Return to the front Opposition bench—but only for a moment. Air Buchanan made some remark that further enraged him and he rushed hack to Afr Buchanan.

Captain Ramsey '(Con., Peebles) thrust himself between them,., and Air Maxton pulled Air Buchanan down on the bench.

Air Alaclean returned again to his seat, while Air Alaxton kept a restraining hand on Air Buchanan. .Further taunts were exchanged, and Air Alaclan was prevented from, ro4 newdg his attack only by being held in his place by members on the front Opposition bench.
