INDIAN CONDITIONS

DISCUSSION IN THE LORDS

(British Official Wireless.)

RUGBY, July 26.

Lord Reading, in the House of Lords, referred to the recent speech made by Cecil Lloyd. He said the impression thereby created was thatthe Government, were concealing information relating to the political ' conditions and the spread of Communist and terrorist activities in India. Lord Inv.’n, for the Government, said there was no , emulation for the suggestions made by Lord Lloyd. Terrorism had existed for many years in India, but activities of the terrorists had been largely crippled. If it was suggested that the terrorism was worse or on the increase, that was definitely opposed to the considered view of tlm Government here and the Government of India.

Lord Lloyd admitted that the local situation in Bengal .had improved, hut he reiterated his charge that the Government were not putting before the public a fair picture of the terrorist and Communist danger.
