INTIMIDATING AND HAZARDOUS.

LONDON, July 26,
“Sporting Life” says; The second test with the West Indies has -brought home the frailties of the fast leg theory -bowling, for which none who saw -the game had :a good word. The opinion formed i s that this type o,f attack i fi not, only intimidating but, is definitely hazardous, and completely spoils cricket.
The “Morning Post’s” critic, Mr ■Robertson, of Glasgow, says: “Jardine showed up the leg theory for the miserable stuff that it is—miserable to . watch, not easy to play, harder to justify. It is simply warfare, not -cri-cket.” “I am gird in one sense that the West Indies introduced the bodyline bowling because now the English people know what it. means,” say s Jack (Hobbs, in reviewing the Anglo-West Indies test. He adds: “I hope that Constantine .also bowls at the Oval. Then the Londoners also will see it in action.”
Critics agree that Jardine’s first test century was a triumph, and they say that Jardine proved that the leg theory has no terrors, The “.Manchester Guardian” says; The Northamptonshire Cricket Club committee has interdicted Clark for exploiting the bodyline in his County engagements; but test cricket, thanks to the Marylebone Club, legalises it' “Hammond’s chi, n was split- to the h-one, and he is unable- t 0 open his eyes properly to-day.”
-SYDNEY “SUN” EDITORIAL
SYDNEY, July 26,
The “Sydney Sun’’ has an editorial dealing wjtli ''“Plum’’ Warner’s comment o-n the bodyline bowling. ’ It declares : “Mr Warner’s sudden conversion is very interesting and very •amusing. When a few Australians dared to say precisely what he is now saying, they were called “squealers.” What shall we say of Warner, the man who, with his oyster-like silences, watched the gifted Harold Larwoou
beating hi s tattoo on the ribs of the Australian cricketers ?”
