VALUE OF MILK
NOURISHMENT FOR CHILDREN. LORD BLEDISLOE’S OPINION. AUCKLAND, July 25 In an address during the visit to the Community Sunshine School to-day by Their Excellencies, Lord Bledisloe noted with special interest that each child wa s given a pint of milk daily. He expressed the view that a very large number of children, who were supposed to he suffering from malnutrition at this time, were suffering not so much from lack of food as from unsuitable food. Every farmer knew how to balance his .rations for feeding farm stock, but there were very few parents who knew how to balance the ration for their children. Milk wa s one of the few complete foods with which nature endowed us. He was informed by authorities that every normal child should, if possible consume 1| pints of milk daily, but, in many homes it was not the custom, and it was thought to be impossible to supply more than a quar-ter-pint daily, but he thought that a good deal of the food given as substitutes for milk was of far less value.
