HITLER’S ORIGIN
A BIG CONTROVERSY STARTED
VIENNA PAPER’S CAMPAIGN
LONDON, July 21
The publication of a series of articles purporting to show that Herr Adolf Hitler is partly Jewish ha s been begun by the Oesterreicher Aibendblatt, says the .Vienna correspondent °f the T‘ meS - The a'llega.ion will be supported by extracts from parish registers, and is the result of diligent research.
.It i s stated that Hitler’s maternal grandmother, Joharaja, was a daughter of Jakob Hitler, who left the ghetto of the Bohemian border town of Pohia in 1833, and was baptised in Vienna. The burgomaster of Herr Hitler’s birthplace, Braunau, certifies that the father changed his name from Schicklgrubor to Hitler in in expectancy of a legacy from ,<y]olf ? great aunt, Klara. The paper prints corroborative .photographs of the ancestral home at Polna, of .a page from the parish register, and of a Hebrew tombstone.
The Abendblatt promises to publish the evidence of a Jewish relative of iHei’r Hitler/who is a small grocer •in • the Jewish quarter of Vienna. The Berlin newspaper Vosskcho Z&jtung, in contradicting the Abendblatt’s allegations, cites ,n statement hv a genealogicil scholar—Karl von Frank' —that on .’both sides of his family, even further tback than' his great-grand parents, Herr Hitler’s ancestors were Austrian peasants.
