SALVAGE FEAT
THE GREATEST IN HISTORY
FORMER. GERMAN FLEET
LONDON, July 19
The greatest salvage feat in history was completed to-day, when the former German battle-cruiser von der Tann, having been towed bottom uppermost from Scapa Flow, reached R.osyth dry dock for breaking-up. ' The von der Tann was the German rearguard at the Battle of Jutland, and .for that reason it ir, appropriate that she- should be the last capital ship to be salved -at Scapa Flow. The salvors, Messrs Cox and Danks, after- clearing, the important channel there and largely, contributing to the science of salvage, have now relinquished the .work which they describe as an unsuccessful-gamble .which entailed a big loss, owing to the depreciation in the value of scrap metal. In all 32 vessels ■ were .raised. Ten warships remain submerged.
The firm ’■will ho# resuihe its -scrap metal business in the Midlands.
