DELIBERATE FRAUD
TO GET MARRIED RELIEF PAY. (Per Prsss Association - Copyright.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 25. Persuading, another .man’s wile to pose as his wife so that he could Obtain a married mail’s relief pay from the Unemployment Board, Wiliam Brooklaud, 59, a labourer, obtained £36 by fraud. He was fined £ls, in default two months, by Mr Mosley. S.M. ■ i Mrs Phillipia Hannah, 56, a domestic,Avas jointly charged, and was convicted and discharged. The-police said that Brooldand was separated from, his wife. He took all the blame for inducing Hannah, an uneducated woman, to sign.:receipts, as In’s wife. Counsel said Hannah believed she was .doing so to help Brookland’s sick wife. “A delibsrate attempt to defraud,.” said Mr MosJey* ~ , .... * -- - .
