GERMAN EXPLORER. CAPTURED BY A SULTAN. BERLIN, July 14. After many adventures, including imprisonment, a German explorer, Dr Hans Helfritz, has crossed Southern Arabia from the Indian Ocean to the Red Sea. The region traversed had not been 'previously explored by a European, and the task he set himscli had been deemed to be impossible. In the course iof his adventurous journey the explorer was captured by a local sultan, who kept him prisoner for three months in a fortified castle. Dr Helfritz, whose journey in South Arabia a year ago resulted in the discovery of extremely ancient towns with fantastic-looking “skyscrapers,” has brought hack rich material which sheds an entirely new light on Arab culture.
