CASE OF FRAUD
. OF EXTENSIVE NATURE. (Per Press Association— Copyright).. CHRIST CHU R CH, July 24. With, the arrest of. Joseph Gordon Lamb on Saturday, a singular case of fraud was exposed. Lamb, 37, a seaman, was charged to-day with obtaining credit for £8 by fraud. He pleaded guilty and was remanded for .sentence,.
The police stated that Lamb had been spreading statements in the city, that he had £6OOO- from an anonymous donor to be distributed .in charity. . Ho bad stayed at a leading hotel incurring a liability of £B, representing , among other things that he was an Engineer Commander. Documents prepared by accused and now handed in would give an idea of the fraud he was intending We got hold of him none too soon, said the Chief Detective. The extent of his wealth when searched was threepence. It was on Saturday that Lamb admitted the whole thing was a hoax. Further inquiries would have to he made.
