OBITUARY

The death took place at Greymouth yesterday of Mrs Charles McPherson. The deceased tvas born in Australia and was 74 years of age. She came :o the West Coast as a child in the early ‘sixties, coming overland from Canterbury to Greymouth in 1864. She had resided there ever since. Three years ago Mr and Mrs McPherson celebrated their golden wedding. Deceased is survived by her husband and three soils, -Messrs Charles McPherson (Chief Engineer, s.s. Makiira) ; John McPherson (Christchurch) and Don Mcxherson (Palmerston North) and by two daughters, Mrs W. Robinson (Hokitika) and Miss C. McPherson (Hawera), The death occurred yesterday morning of Mrs Jessie Lamont, wife of Mr F. Lamont, of the literary staff of the “Greymouth Evening Star.” The late Mrs Lamont, who was highly esteem' ed by a wide circle of friends, was a native of Lumsden, Ota go ; and was the second daughter of Mrs J. Orr, of Waikuku, and formerly of Greymouth. She came to the AVest Coast in her early years, and resided for some time at Reefton before coming t 0 Greymouth. She had been ailing for a considerable time, and her death was not unexpected. Besides her husband, and her mother, she is survived by one brother and three sisters. The death took yesterday, after a short illness, of Frank Croft, aged 19 years, fourth son of Mr and Mrs T,. Croft, Stillwater, and brother to the well-known professional boxer, Tom Croft. Born in Oamnni, he came over to the Coast with his parents, and resided in Ross for some time, whence he shifted io Stillwater about six years ago. The deceased was a good athlete, taking part in amateur boxing and swimming.
