MARLBOROUGH'S DEFERRED HOPE . HUMOUR IX TIIE COURT. (ter triss Associateov ~ Copyright., BLENHEIM. July 21. Sonic amusement at the expense of Marlborough's long deferred hope of ipoing the south main trunk railway completed was occasioned in the Compensation Court this morning when Mr J. Murray, of Clarence Bridge, was giving evidence in the Dashwcod deviation case, concerning risk, 3 arising out of grass fires caused by sparks from railway engines. “I may say that I have no experience of fires started by railway engines,” witness confessed. Nlr A. A. Mac Nab: “In fact you have been disappointed in the anticipated experience?” “Yet,” agreed witness rather ruefully.
“I am afraid you will be disappointed for a long time to come, Mr Murray,” observed His Honour, Mr Justice Ostler. “I hope you will at any rate.”
“Don’t say that your Honour,” pleaded Mr Mac Nab. “It is almost sacrilege to say that here.” '"laughter). His Honour: “The view of a North Islander, eh, Mr Mac Nab?” “I think they define theirt as Aucklanders here .sir.” (renewed laughter).
