LOSSES OF SPARE WHEELS

POLICE PROTECTION SOUGHT,

AUCKLAND, July 16

“After speaking about the frequent thefts of spare wheels from motor-cars, I left the last meeting and found my own spare wheel had been stolen,’’ s aid Dr J. Howard Lawry. at a meeting of the council of the Automobile Association last meeting.

Inquiries showed that the theft 6 were being committed on a fairly large scale, Dr Lawry said.. When lie went to obtain a new wheel, the garage proprietor said he lhad heard of two owners losing spare wheels and tyres within the .previous two days, and also knew of a motorist who hacl had a new 17-plate battery removed from big car. “It is the duty of the association to do something in the matter, and I suggest we offer a substantial iveward to any person giving information that 'results in the conviction of a thief who has stolen members’ wheel 6 or accessories,” he added.

It was'decided to write to the superintendent of police in Auckland asking him to take special .action in view' cjf the frequency with which such thefts wore occurring.
