THE IRISH NATIONAL GUARD. ATTACK MADE ON BLUE SHIRTS (United Press Aseo iation—Bv Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, July 21. General O’Duffy, who formerly was Chief Commissioner l of the Civic Guards at Dublin, has been appointed as the head of a new organisation that is called the National Guard or the “Blue Shirts.’’ It. has been formed out of the Army Comrades Association. The Guard has declared that it is independent of all political organisations and that it aims at promoting national unity, and at the suppression of Communism. Street fighting followed the Guard .convention, at which General O’Duffy Avas elected as head. Bodies of young men and women attacked the “Blue Shirts.’ The Civic Guards then used batons in order to disperse the crowd. Several were injured.
