ZNIr J. R. Rutland son of Mr and Mrs Butland of Gibson Quay, has been appointed chairman of the Honey Control Board. Mr Butland who is head of the firm of J. R. Butland llrpprietory Ltd., of Auckland, is; the Government representative on the Honey Control Board. Mr Butland last year visited the United States, Great Britain and ' the East in the interests of the Board, and recently paid a visit to Australia. The young man is a native of Hokitika, and was educated at the District High School. He began is career in banking being on the staff of the Bank of New South Wales, first iat Hokitika and then at Wellington, where he was in the head office. Later, ho went into business at Auckland where he has several manufacturing and indenting interests, having also ian cxensive business connection overseas.

A very pleasing response to the Hokitika Ladies’ Relief Committee’s appeal for goods and clothes resulted this morning when the drive took place. The collection was made by motor lorry and also by the (joy pclouts and a welcome supply wee received, for which the Committee sincerely thank the donors, the result being splendid. Members of the Committee were busy at the Hospial Board’s offices all day, and as a result much needed relief will immediately be able to be given. The Committee further ask that any further donations, which were inadvertantly missed during the collection this morning, be kindly sent to tbe Hospital Board’s offices during the coming week.
