AND N.Z. TARIFFS
(Per Press Association — Copyright.)
WELLINGTON, July 18
Satisfied with the Prime Minister’s assurance, as cabled from London, that the speech of the British Minister of Agriculture (Major Elliot) has boofi “extensively ■- fiiisi*eprcshif(:od,” " tiny New Zealand Aiamifaetnrers’ LVdoriP lion to-day announced its intention to continue with representations before the Tariff Commission.
In a statement explaining its' temporary withdrawal from the Commission the Federation comments on the remarks of Mr W. J. Poison, M.P., as follows:—"We regard it as a very serious matter that a responsible polit;eian should resort to such methods, and should attempt to influence the Government and Tariff Commission. We recognised moreover, that immediate action was necessary to expose this flagrant distortion of the facts. This h::s now been achieved, and the Federation will continue its work of substantiating its claim that our existing tariff is moderate and reasonable, and is already below the limit imposed by the Ottawa Agreement.”
