TRAGIC SEQUEL
TO RECENT MAINTENANCE CASE GIRL’S FATHER SUICIDES. (Per Press Association Copyright.) GISBORNE, July 17. There was a tragic sequel to the maintenance case m wh.ch a wellknown amateur wrestler was alleged to have ill-treated his 19-year-old wife. The latter’s father, Edward Arthur Millard, a photgi-apher, was discoverer this morning, apparently having shot himself.
(A Gisborne message on Saturday stated: —A separation order was issued by a Magistrate this morning in a case in which a fragile girl, 19 years of age, told a remarkable story of unhappiness and persistent cruelity. Her husband is an amateur wrestler and according to statements by counsel, cruelty commenced on Christmas Day, 1932, a lew days after their .marriage. Defendant practised upon her holds he had learned in the art of wrestling. On one occasion, he gave her an “aeroplane spin,’’ and recently, after boxing with her,' he picked her up and threw her : into a bath full-of water. The Magistrate gave defendant a severe warning to- keep away from Ms wife in future.). . . .
