“Do you object to smoking, madam p’> Thug one of the only two passengers in the smoker” of the Auckl&nd-One-hunga train. “Willy I smoke myself,” smiled the lady. Thereupon she ' produced a substantial briar, and lit up! “Are you surprised?” she asked gaily, “I used to smoke cigarettes, but find ia pipe far better.” “If it’s not an impertinent question,” said the gentleman, “what tobacco do you smoke?” “Itiverliead Gold; It’s delicious, and as there’s hardily any nicotine in it it’s quite harmless. You see it’ B toasted. Haven’t you tried, touted tobacco?” “No. But I certainly shall!” “You’ll find Kiverhead too mild, if you’re a,n old smoker,” continued the lady, “but there are other brands. Cavendish and Navy Cut No. 3 (Bulldog), {both medium), and Cut Plug No. 10 (Bulkhead), if you like something stronger. They are all good, and the only toasted tobaccos manufactured.” The, n they changed the subject, but the male smoker told himself later that he had learned something about tobacco he hadn’t known before.—Advt,
