COWARDS IN WAR
PENSIONS OR THEIR RELATIVES FRENCH PROPOSAL OPPOSED LONDON, July 8. A proposal by the French Socialists that the families 0 f soldiers shot in the Great War for insubordination should be entitled to the same war pensions as the families of soldiers shot by the enemy is causing a controversy throughout France, says the Paris correspondent of the Manchester Guardian. The Socialists argue that “cowards” are as much the victims of war as heroes. The “Croix de Feu,” an ultra-patri-otic organisation, has sent a message to the Premier, M. Daladier ) protesting, in the name of the country’s security, against the proposal, declaring that it would be only an act of encouragement to cowards and conscientious objectors. |
