OBITUARY

The death occurred at Waiuta, yester day of Miss Kitty Stephens, third daughter of Mrs and the late Mr W. Stephens. Deceased, who was born at Redruth, Cornwall, was 18 years of age. Her death occcurred after a lengthy illness

The death took place at an early hour this morning at Gisborne Hospital, of Mr Thomas Smith, a well-known resident of Kaiti, for some years years, where he was an employee of the freezing works there. Deceased entered the hospital on Wednesday for a serious operation, of the result there were grave fears, and passed away ‘as stated. He wn,? about 52 years' 5 of age, and leaves a widow '(nee Barter Johnson, formerly of Albert Street Greymouth, and sister of Mrs A. E. Benjamin of Hokitika) and a family of one. son and one daughter.
