THE GREAT NEPIA According to members of the Poverty Bay representative team, the deciding feature of the Barry Cup match at Ruatoria, won by East Coast by 12 points to 7, was the brilliance of George Nepia, the former New Zealand representative fullback, who gave a display rivalling the best seen from him in the days of his prime. Nepia was frequently the sole defender of the coast goal-line when good dribbling rushes on the part 0 f the Poverty Bay forwards had carried the ball through the opposing team. -Time after time lie went through' and emerged upfield with the ball in, his hands, kicking for the line with marvellous accuracy and meeting the Poverty Bay attacks with a skill and polish worthy of his great fame as a fullback.
