STRIKE OPPOSED
BY AUCKLAND RELIEF MEN. DEMONSTRATION FALLS THROUGH [Per Press Association Copyright.) AUCKLAND, July 12. A proposal that Auckland relief workers should strike in sympathy with those who have c-eased work in Hawke's Bay. recently, was rejected at a ballot by a majority of over two to one. It was stated that out ot 8000 relief workers in Auckland area entitled to vote, only 3000 took parr in the ballot. The actual voting figures have not been divulged. An effort was made to hold a demonstration of unemployed at Victoria Park, but only about. 100 men attended. After a wait of about half an hour, the men were told that it was not proposed to proceed with the meeting, but that they would meet later at the Trades Hall, A meeting at the Trades Hall, attended by approximately 100 men and several women, was addressed by Mr H. Kay, the chairman, of the Napier and District Relief Workers’ AssociaHawke’s Bav. At the coiHusion, the lenders declined to make a statement indietinor the nature of the business considered.
