REPORT ON N.Z. TOURING TEAM

Early defeats, that affected the morale of younger players and unexpected absence of form in others are stressed in the report of Mr. L. Godber, manager of the New Zealand 'Soccer team on its tour of Australia, which was presented to the- Council of the New Zealand Football Association last evening; “The team had to carry too many, passengers, in consequence of players falling to produce form,” remarks Mr Godber. “The form of at least- five players was ’not up to club standard, thereby disorganising the team and throwing too much On the shoulders of the remaining members. Tbe tour took place too early in the season to enable [•election on current form.

“Accidents befell Ives, . who missed five matches, Baker who sprained his ankle in the first practice match., did not play in a match; Graham received a face injury, and Zui'l, who suffered an internal injury in the last test, was ordered three months’ rest.” The manager ' added that lie understood there would he a considerable loss on the tour.

The report said that there was a unanimous opinion in Australia that there should be more frequent visits between the two countries. Australia indicated that is was willing to share tour of teams from Africa or Italy. Although the team failed in its objective, Air Gqdber believed that the players would . profit by the experience gained. The report will he discussed at the next meeting of the council. The chairman, Air F. Campbell, welcomed ATr Godber and Air Neale McArthur, assistant manager, and congratulated them upon the conduct of the tour.
