(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright).

CALCUTTA, June 26

Army Soccer teams refused to compete in the Indian Football Association’s shield competition because two referees are allowed to control the game. Calcutta is the only city in the world which has adopted this amazing variation of the rules of the game. The association: has bowed to the Army’s ultimatum, and the two referee scheme lia s been suspended for the shield games. This scheme has been a failure in any case, between the two referees being frequent. On o n e occasion both referees blew their whistles for a breach, but eacli awarded a penalty to a different side, to the intense, amusement of the crowds.

The extraordinary situation was saved by one referee insisting that ho was right, and the other giving way
