MINING INDUSTRY
ENCOURAGING OUTLOOK
LONDON, June 21
“A sober view of the- prospects indicates a. strong probability:., that, within a few years, Australia again will rank among the world’s mQat important gold producers,” writes Mr Robert Annan, in the special gold; number of the Times. Mr Annan, .who is managing director of the Lake George Mining Corporation and a director of ..many othpr mining companies, emphasises the gratifying aspects of the Australian goidmining renaissance as a notable feature of tho Empire’s pre-eminence in the world’s goldfields. He says successful developments at Wiluna and Lake View completely vindicate the Royal Commission’s findings, and justify the Packers’ faith in the enterprise. Tributes are paid to labour’s response to the new conditions, increasing efficiency and the Government’s fostering of the industry. The writer also mentions the renewed activities in Victoria and Queensland, especially aerial reconnaissance and the revolution of transport. “Apart from the exploration of new, territory,” iMr Annan adds, “there is ; abundant evidence that older districts contain ore reserves that will yield a good return. ~ . “Under the new treatment of ore 1 it is always possible that systematic, intensive .prospecting now being begun, will disclose not merely isolated mires but new fields of a magnitude which will make possible far-reaching results t 0 the whole Commonwealth.”
