A DRAMATIC FINISH BRITAIN WINS RYDER CUP (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph-Copyright.) LONDON, June 27. To-day’s Ryder,Cup victory null be memorable. Actually it was decided on the 36th green by the last matcli. British and American honours were easy, with 20,000 people hanging on the result of the Easterbrooke-Sliute contest. Both put- their drives in the same hunker. Both took three to reach the green. Easterbrook -laid the first putt within a couple -of feet. Every thing depended oii Sihute. If he holed', his putt, the Cup went; to America-. If; he took two putts the whole contest; would be drawn. Unexpectedly he overran the hole by six feet, and missed the return, while the Englishman, 1 faced with the most momentous short putt in his career, took the greatest care and holed the ball, midst a great cheer.
AH day, fortunes fluctuated as the matches arrived. Mitchell was the hero of the English side. ' Michell’s first, round, an amazing'’ affair, began patchily. He then played an,inspired game and won every one of the last, eight holes, while Dutra, demoralised, could not keep out of trouble. The crowd cheered Mitchell’s every shot..
Lacey, one of Britain’s longest hitters, and most daring ■ gave Hagen a great fight. Lacey r was one up at the end of the first romifd. Hagen never drew square till the 31st hole.
The Prince of Wales' "Gait, created difficulties. A great crush of spectators continually clustered round him.. The Prince led them a strenuous race* over the sandhills from one match to another.
Hagen said; We had the best possible United States team, but were beaten by really great golf. ,
