The bureau of the Disarmament Conference recommended an adjournment of file Conference- until 16th. October. It proposed that Mr HcnIderion meanwhile, confer with the Powers, and report .progress to Jho bureau in September. j|j. Henderson announced that liis mission to London had been unsuccessfill, because the delegations were overwhelmed with other work. He suggested the adjournment to enable lum To smooth the difficulties. ■ M. Niidolny objected, as its effect on public opinion would be disastrous. There was ho hope that Mr Henderson would be more successful in the future than in the past. Mi- Henderson retorted that the powers had assured him that they are now ready for discussions. Ihe adjournment was carried unanimously, it being agreed that it would lie fruitless to continue open discussions, owing to the 'absence of am agreement on essential points, the -smaller powers forecasting the first class funeral of the-Conference.
