ARRIVES AT SYDNEY PARTY’S ENTHUSIASTIC WELCOME (Australian Press Association). SYDNEY, June 26. After a leisurely flight from Brisbane in crisp sunshine the survey plane Astraea reached Sydney this afternoon. There was a crowd present of a thousand persons, who were impressed with the graceful landing of the largest machine which lias ever visited Australia. Mayor Brackley and his party were enthusiastically ewlcomed, and Major Brackley was' compelled to make a (speech, in which lie expressed his admiration for the beauty of the coast scenery. and the wonderful scope which tills country affords for flying. He added that it was apparent that uhe people ere thoroughly air-minded when they would turn out in such large numbers to witness the Astraea’s arrival. He felt quite sure that everybody was aware of his mission, and hoped soon to see a. regular air service between England and Australia. An escort of a dozen local aeroplanes, which accompanied the giant Astraea over the city, were completely dwarfed in size. AUSTR ALIA-ENGLAND RECORD. AN ATTEMPT TO BE MADE. SYDNEY, June 26. J. Woods, pilot in the service of Western Australian Airways, intends to leave Broome on July 4, in an attempt to break the Australia, to England flight record. Woods who has done a lot of flying in New Zealand, lias accumulated more than 7000 hours of flying. He took i part in the searches for the Southern Cross, and the Danish training ship, Ivobenliavn in 1929.
