EXPLORER’S FATE

DISCOVERY OF Kts RECORDS AFTER LAPSE OF THREE YEARS LONDON, June 16. The fate of an Arctic exploration party lead by Dr Krcuger, of Germany, with two companions, has been partially revealed by a radio message received at Ottawa. Tile message, which came via the Danish wireless station at- Godhavn (Greenland), transmits a report from the isolated Canadian Government police at Bache Peninsula, within 700 miles of the North Pole. It says that a patrol under Corporal stallworthy, which covered 3000 miles last year over the wastes of Ellesmere Island and 1 other northerly islands, found Kreuger’s records, dated April 24,, 1930, at Peary’s Cairn. No further trace of Kreuger’s party was found. It took four- months for the message to be transmitted to Godhavn from the Cache post.

The message has relieved anxiety about the safety of Canada s most 'northerly patrol post, which has not been visited since 1931, owing to the ice having prevented last year t,he annual-visit to tbe post by the Government supply vessel. Dr H. K. E. Krcuger, the, German scientist, and his Danish assistant, Mr R. A. Two of the natives returned to the police post in April with letters from Dr Krcuger in which he stated that if the party did not return in August they hoped to d,> so when travelling conditions improved later in the year. When they failed to return by the spring of 1931, it was thought that there was little hope of their survival; 1
