lUnited Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) •
LONDON, June 22.
The “Daily Herald” gives prominence to a story from its diplomatic correspondent, that Signor Mussolini proposes the immediate restoration of the Haps burgs with Prince Otto as King of both Austria and Hungary.
The “Daily Herald” continues that the British Government is sympathetic, while the German Government ; under the pressure of the Rome government, having reluctantly agreed. Paris advices say that the French Cabinet is divided on the matter, and that there is only the Little Entente solid in its opposition. The “Daily Herald” connects the proposal with the phrase which Captain Eden, (British Under Secretary for Foreign Affairs) used, as wirelessed on Monday namely, “that a speedy mean s has been found of removing the friction between Germany and Austria. ■ K-
France is hesitating because the Little Entente powers are very alarmed, and her close friendship with the Little Entente is - the kingpin of France’s policy.
Dr Dollfus, the Prime Minister of Austria is enthusiastic about Signor Mussolini V scheme, as it removes the Nazis’ menace and strengthens the power of the Vatican and Central Europe; but Admiral Horthy, the President of Hungary, 'is not very enthusiastic, though he is afraid to oppose Signor Mussolini’s scheme. Admiral Horthy insists that the union between Austria- and Hungary, shoiiiu be confined to the kingship, and that each country should keep its complete independence.
LITTLE ENTENTE APPREHENSEVE OVER ATTITUDE OF FRANCE LONDON, June 22. In addition to the “Daily Herald” reference to the Hapsburgs, the “Daily Telegraph’s” diplomatic cor- , respondent also deals with the subject. He says that the . Little Entente representatives at the London Conference, are apprehensive lest France shall support the Italian policy towards the Danube. This policy aims at preventing an Austro-German Union by promoting AaiAtAu stro-Hungaii&n wre-unionyr' and eventually, perhaps, the restriction of the Hapsburgs. France probably will prefer to have any solution to an-’Aus-' tro-German Union.
