RACE WAGES

— ll • >-y *' 1 I i. ' ■r- ' NEW WELLINGTON TOTALISATOR -MOST up-to-date; .SYSIEM... (Per Press Association—Copyright). WELLINGTON, June 22. Patrons of the Wellington Racing Club’s steeplechase meeting next month will be provided with the most up-to-da te-, placed before the racing public in New Zealand. For the first time in the Dominion, the “win” investors will have the odds of their horses recorded for them when the betting is in progress. The existing electric installations in New Zealand have been designed to record and indicate one pool oniy, but a new get of machinery has been designed, and installed at Trenthem, to record the sale of tickets in the win pool, This new installation, v ; consists of twenty-four adding units, recording the number of win tickets on each horse. Electrically connected to these adding- units are a number of ticketissuing machines. These also operate a master unit, which records in the public view the gross total of the ; tickets in the pool.

An intriguing part of the scheme is that the machine, as well as recording the gross total, has an indicator which record-s the amount available in the pool after the various measures of taxation have been deducted. Ail operator with that indicator is in com-, mtinication with the indicator house, so that investors will be continuously informed what each runner is paying for a straight-out win. The whole machine, with the exception of the meters, has been made in New Zealand. The machinery Is wholly to the design of Mr Saggers, who for the pest seven years lias been in charge of the electric tote at Trentham.
