TARIFF COMMISSION
MANUFACTURERS PRESENT CASE. (Per Press Association —- Copyright.) \ WELLINGTON, June 22. A joint case on-behalf of the manufacturers of men’s clothing was pitsen ted to the Tariff Commission to-day. It was requested that the tariff item, regarding apparel should lie. subdivided to:provide for (a) apparel, woch oi containing wool ; (b) aj parel,. not elsewhere indicated. 1 That the tariff on the first be 32J per cent. British preference and .65 per cent, general, with a minimum flat rate per garment, to be decided by the Minister of Customs, in conjunction with his dealing with dumping. On the second it was asked that the present tariff 0f.273 per cent be maintained; that, the pfimage be removed fromi tailors’ trimming, and that the duty be reduced on braids used in the manufacture of garments, ments.
-In.the course of discussion on many points, Mr Pascoe pointed: out that the primage duty was imposed for raveriu'o purposes. He .did not think that the Commissioner could lift it for one section of the community only.
