FALSE ALARMS
FIRE BRIGADE CALLED OUT. A LAD FINED £O. (Per Press Association Copyright.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 22. A youth who brought out the fire brigade on nine bogus calls within four (lays, appeared at court this morning. The accused, Francis Wai.derma Malaquin, 17, a newspaper runner, was fined £0 in default a month. The police said the brigade turned out on each occasion at a cost of £5 per time. In addition P°hce and firemen were out all night watching the alarm boxes. Two firemen saw Malaquin hoveling about the alarm box and being questioned, he said he was waiting to get papers from ’another newsrunner. Later, a constable interviewed Mala, quin, who admitted the offences. The magistrate (Mr Mosley), said the offences were worse than aoy larrikin ism.
