NEW RACING CAR

SECRET MANUFACTURE. ORDERED BY AUSTRALIAN. LONDON, June 6. The world’s fastest track racing car is being secretly built by the designer of Sir Malcolm Campbell’s Bluebird for John Cobb, Australian racing motorist, who conceived the idea in 1931. The car will make its first appearance at Brooldands on July 1, after which Cobb and three others hope to break all records at Montlhsry. It is expected that the car will have a maximum speed of 180 miles an hour and that it will be capable of averaging 120 miles an hour for 24 hours, including the time needed for changing tyres and drivers and refuelling. The car cannot climb hills owing to its special gear-teeth. The . engine, «which will develop 500 horse-power, weighs 8-K'Wt. The new racer stands only 3ft high and travels five miles to the gallon. It will be driven at Montlhery in shifts.
