SPORTSMAN'S DEATH. MASTERTON, June 17. Tlie death occurred early this morning of Mr C. F. VaJlance, president of the Masterton Racing Club for many years and a well known owner of racehorses. He owned the Kahuiningi stud and station. WINOOKA AT FRISCO. SAN BRUNO, California, June 17. En route for San Francisco from Sydney, Winooka and Trevallion, the Australian thoroughbreds, and Austin Robinson, one of the swiftest Australian sprinters, arrived here to-day on the Monterey. Mr Rufus 'Naylor, manager of this trio of speedsters plans to start immediately in conditioning the horses. Robinson hopes to launch a professional campaign' in the United States. Mike Poison, attendant H. Sullivan, and E. Britt, the nineteen year old apprentice jockey, accompanied the horses.
ASCOT RACES. LONDON, June 16. The Ascot .paces ended in a of sunshine. A remarkable coincidence wa 5 that the King’s horse Limelight, Sir Cunliffe Owen’s C on certo and S>r H. Wernher’.s Brown Jack were all winners on the last day, as in 1932. The' King’s victory in the Hardwick .Stakes was particularly popular. ijs his Majesty said himself: "It was a good wind-up to a week’s racing.” Brown Jack won the Alexandra stakes for the fifth time in succession. He was ridden by Steve Donoghue. This is a record .for tile turf.
