The Hon. J. A. Hanna Unll Hbib C. J. Carrington have been re-appoint-ed to the Legislative . Council for seven years us irom to-day.

Mr Ha-nan, wlin sat in tbe House of Repiesentauivos as member for Invercargill lor twenty-six year©, is now Chairman of Gominictees of the Legislative.' Council. He is also a meniWif of the Statutes Revision Committee of that eha-mucr. He was a member of the Mackenzie Government of 191,2 and again held Cabinet rank during the War period, being Minister of Education and Justice Mr (Ja-rru.gLon wa© for some years chairman ol tiie Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates’ election committee in the Kainara electorate. He resides at Dargavillo and i, 3 a master builder. His appointment to the Legislative Council wa© made by Mr Coates in 1926. He is principally known as a strong opponent to the Bibl.e-in-schc.als movement.

The following have retired from the council through the effluxion of time since early in Mgy of this year: The Hons. Sir John -Sinclair, E. W. Alison, D. T. Fleming, G. J. Garland, J. B. Gow, A. F. Hawke, W. Stewart, G. M. Thompson, W. H. Triggs, Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, L. M. Isitt, .and G. Wliitty. Death has removed Sir Thomas Sidey and the Hon.. E. H. Clark. .

This was the principle recommended by the imperial economic committees on imperial industrial cooperation.'
