ENDURANCE DANCES

MAN’S USE OF COCAINE A confession which throws light on one aspect of “Marathon” dancing has been made in the Correctional Appeal Court in Paris. The man in the dock was appealing against a sentence of thirteen months’ imprisonment passed on him by default for trafficking in drugs. “Sir,” lie explained to the judge, “I am not a drug trafficker. I simple use cocaine to keen myself going.” The Judge: To keen yourself going? What do you mean ? Accused: I am an endurance dancer. As the judge still looked puzzled, counsel for the defence explained that his client earned his living by taking part in “dancing” competitions, in which prizes were awarded to the couples who remain the longest on the floor. Such spectacles are no longer tolerated, by the Paris police, owing to ?. particularly painful exhibition there more than ii year ago. The judge refused to accept the explanation, but reduced the sentence to four months.
