ASCOT OPENS SENSATIONALLY. STEVE DONOGHUE INJURED. (United Frees Association—-By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received this day at 9 a.m.) ) LONDON, June 14. Ascot opened sensationally. Steve Donoghue was thrown heavily when Tavern dashed at the barrier at the start of the Prince of Wales Stakes, The Stewards suspended Michael Beary for the remainder of the meeting. Beary was also throwil. He denies that he caused the accident by trying to beat the start. The famous trainer, F. Leader, who trained Gainslaw, the winner of the Ascot Gold Vase yesterday, when motoring home from Newmarket with his wife at midnight, crashed into a lorry and both were killed.
RESULT OF ASCOT STAKES. LONDON, June 13. The Ascot Stakes resulted: Roi de Paris 1, Loose Strife 2, Dictum 3. 'Twenty-three started. Won by a short hea<(; a length and a half between second and third. ROYALTY VISIT ASCOT. RUGBY, June 13. Although the weather was unsettled and rather cold, the King and Queen to-day drove to the Ascot races, although in the circumstances the usual Royal procession did not take place.
