AUSTRIAN CRISIS APPOINTMENT OF DICTATORS. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright;. , VIENNJj, June 13. The police throughout the country liavo closed one hundred and seventy Nazi brown houses and questioned three thousand Nazis. They have arrested four hundred, of whom forty are Germ ~n citizens. Cab.net has appointed nine, special security -commissioners, mostly generals and colonels, who will be virtual dictators of the respective provinces, and are empowered to deal with any emergency. A gang of men forcibly broke into the house of Dr Schloeg, web-known leader of the Bavarian Catholics, and demolished the furniture and then beat Dr. Schloegl so unmercifully that ho had to be to hospital.

GERMANY’S REPRISAL MEASURE. AUSTR IAN OFFICIAL ARRESTED. (Received this day at 9.30 a.m.) BERLIN, June 14, I)r. Erkin Wasserbaeck, chief of the press department of the Austrian legation, has been arrested as a reprisal for Herr Habricht’s arrest.
A detachment of secret police knocked at Herr Wasserbaeck’s frit at two o’clock in the morning, and told him that they had Herr Goering’s order to arrest him. Wasserbaeck re used to open the door until he had telephoned to Herr Dolfuss in London. Dolfuss advised him to only yield to force, and he then opened the door. Tauschitz, Austrian Minister, has lodged a vigorous -protest ' at Wasserbaeck’s arrest. Dolfuss communicated with von Neffrath in London stating it was a violation of diplomatic •'rights.

The creation of an independant Austria has caused at least sixty per cent, of Austrians to become determined to remain Austrians. “We .are warring with the Nazis mi the right, and the Socialists on the left but the middle group and -others desiring the maintenance- of the capital, fistic order are united against both. I believe that Austria r.n live alone. ‘‘We have stabilised currency, balanced our budget, .and reduced the unfavourable balance of trade, and although we want to avoid being swallowed -by Hitlerism, we ere not enemies of German’am. On the contrary Vienna was the home of the German Emperors when Berlin w-as a fishing village. We want Austria to exhibit German- culture in its best sense— not a menace, but an inspiration.”
