The rain has ceased, except lor occuS-Loinu snowers, m Napier and Hastings, while similar reports are received rrom the back country districts-. The greater part or the oHernoon was free from rain, with the result that the. river levels have shown a decrease, which indicates that' further flood danger is past. The water covering the Me©a.nee~and Pakakura distncs is still of cdnsiderable depth, but it is slowly finding its way clear. It will, however, be several days before it» becomes comparatively dry and possible t 0 make a, complete survey of the damage and losses though reports indicate that farmers in the more seriously-affected areas will be heavy losers j COMMUNICATION WITH GISBORNE GISBORNE, May 29. . The road communication between Gisborne and Napier is still subject to interruption owing to slips, but the service companies are,endeavouring to get: passengers through.
