The occasion was the Catholic students’ memorial demonstration in honour of Leo Schlageter who- was shot by the French for sabotage in the Ruhr in 1928. Nazis, resenting outsiders’ homage to theii own “martyr,” drove away Herr Dolfuss and Herr Sehussnig, and severely handled the Catholic students. When the police. arrived the Nazis barricaded themselves-: and threw chairs; ink-pots, and books at the police-iwho quelled the disturbance by arresting some- and dispersing the rem'ainder. \
