WORKER BURIED

CAUGHT UNDER SCORIA.

WHANGAREI, May 22

While working in .the railway ballast quarry on Onoke, near Ruatangata, early this afternoon, a relief worker Mr Rupert H. Airey, was buried under ia fall of scoria and wag later admitted to hospital. His companions worked desperately, and finally, after two hours’ strenuous work, Mr Airey was extricated and taken to the Ruatangata station on a stretcher. He was brought to Whano-arei by train and admitted to hospital.

He is suffering from bruises and contusions, and it is not yet known whether any hones were fractured. His condition, this evening is factory.

Mr Airey is a married man, aged 55 years, whose home is in, Valley Road,' Mount Eden. ■
