■ WELLINGTON, May 24. The Australian :: University Rugby teanr suffered their third defeat when they were beaten by Victoria .University by 21 to 15 at Athletic Park to-day. The game was full of incident, though rather patchy. . The open style of plav wa* adopted by the vlsitoift. This broke down through their own bad handling thus presenting the home team with plenty of ; scoring opportunities, which they accepted. The; weather was overcast. . Victoria .University s team was weakened' through the •absence of Hislop and Mackenzie, who were nursing injuries. -Despite the handicap, 'Victoria played , the better football, and they converted .to profitable use many scoring, chances given by the visitors’ mistakes.. At times the Australians gave glimpses of clever back play, passing was erfatfc, and their .handling weak." From the ' outset ' they adopted the typical Sydney' Rugby game of throwing the ball about from any position pn the. field. Caution was. thrown entirely to the wind, but every time their movements brok e dow, n they found themselves in trouble. The crowd "\ appreciated the visitors’ efforts to keep h the ball in play. The tpuchliue . .was 1 used by them only as a last resort, and had they been able to • hold the ball with any degree of certainty,, '.they probably would have won. Ongley, Edwards* giedfich and Ruru scored tries for the vpinners. Kane concerted two and also kicked- a Penalty goal, and Ruru converted , one try. , * For the Australian's, Booth scored, two t;tries/ and Kennedy one. Westfield kicked two penalties. /
