SWINE FEVER
SLAUGHTER NEARLY COMPLETED

A Departmental official said to-day that the slaughtering and burying o L pigs on the farms altected by the swine lever outbreak is very largely over. Tomorrow -it is hoped to see the woik complete. A close watch is being kept to-day The reports of the inspectors are all negative. Particular attention is being paid to-the piggeries in the Hutt Valley. Suspicions of swine fever on a faun at Namai, Lower %u?t have definitely been confirmed, and all of• the pigs on this farm numbering 130, will be destroyed. ... The work of digging trenches for the disposal, of the bodies will be set in hand, immediately, local relief workers being engaged. The total number of animals condemned ip the Johnsonville district is 1606. The last of these bodies is expected to be disposed, of late to-morrow. The carcase of the third pig found in the harbour has been examined, and its infection with some fever has practically ben established. The Agricultural Department’s officers have not yet-been able to trace the farm owning the pigs’ that were found in the harbour. .•
