OTTAWA, May 22.
The attitude of Mr C'ahan, Canadian representative at Geneva* on the SmoJapanese conflict was severely criticised by Professor Soward, of the Umversiay of British Columbia, before the Canadian Historical Association. He said that Mr C'ahan's speech had been modelled 'very much along jjfche. lines-of the British Foreign ' Secretary’s and nearly supported the Japanese claim that China was not entitled to consideration.

BRITAIN’S NON-RECOGNITION
RUGBY, May 22.
The Prime Minister answered a series of questions in Parliament, addressed to the Foreign. Secretary, who r» at Geneva. He said that negotiations for the conclusion of a new commercial agreement with the Japanese Government were not at present contemplated. Regarding the recognition of Manchukuo, he said that Japan alone had 'formally recognised the new State. The British Government were bound by the League Assembly report of February, and continued to withhold recognition.
