FRENCH SLOOP
TO VISIT NEW ZEALAND
AUCKLAND, May 17
One of the. latest- French war sloops, I the Savorgnan de Brazza, will 'arrive at Auckland on June 3, in the course I of an extended cruise of ■ the Pacific. The warship will leave again on Juno 10 for New Caledonia. As . the sloop will arrive at Auckland on the King’s Birthday, it is probable that added ceremonial will mark the occasion. The Savorgnan de Br'az/.a is a - vessel of 2000 tons, with Diesel motors and a speed of 10.0 knots, which has been considerably increased in trials. She* carried three guns of 133 mm. and four of 37 mip., nncl also a light hydroplane. She is manned by 14 officers and 120' men. The class to which she belongs was specially designed for service in warm climates.
