A thrilling story was told by the Under-Secretary lor Air, Sir Philip Sassoon, of an aircraftsman’s qdygntures wlieii' be fell from a' machine while ever hostile territory in Northern Iraq. ,

:Sir Philip said local ground forces, sent to dislodge a turbulent, tribal chief in Iraq, were cut off front their Supplies. They were seriously short of food and ammunition. The R.A.F. were called in, and dropped supplies to the troops. In the course of the operations,, an aircraftsman acting as wireless operator fell through, the fuselage of a machine. As he fell, however, lie succeeded in Opening his parachute and landed safely. The man went to the nearest post occupied by the Iraq army. . “There thisilhnpremeditated .messenger from took control of the wireless/station, and was able to supply information, as to the progress of the operations, which was of the greatest service to air hei"lqunritcrs at Mfrsul.,” added Sir Philip.
