Relief workers who were /detailed to dig trenches to bury diseased pigs,, instead of going to' the job this .morn- , ;ing, sent two' deputations containing delegates from all the relief jobs to the Uemploymcnt Brft-cau and A.rgicultural D'-spartmeut, demanding dirt money in additino to the ten shillings per day being paid. No digging is proceeding. , . It is reported that pigs are dying With, increased rapidity to-day, and tlie ''position is causing the Depart-, incut grave concern.- v . •
A suggestion lias been made that the outbreak occurred on farms obtaining garbsge from Wellington.: also that it was possible that some of the garbage might have come from intercolonial .or overseas vessels.
From inquiries made to-dav it appears that this is most unlikely, because strict regulations apply regard-• ing ships’ garbage; which is taken to the city destructor and burnt)
