, PEKING, May 8. Police are investigating the sensational shooting, in a British-owned hotel, of a Chinese -who has not been identine|? ia " j[ poom of a Chinese g.:est, another! Chinese fired two hul’ets into liis body and then escaped in a waiting motor-car.
According to the Chinese Press, the victim, whose condition is very critical, was appointed by the Manchukuo Government to the command of an alpiiiy corps in the Peking-Tientsin area, presumably in anticipation of the change-over of -the city.
It is also declared that he received a million dollars to use as bribes. The unknown assilant is now lauded as a national hero.
