LONDON, May 16,
The “Daily Herald” says: After a two hour’s conclave, the Marylebone o.;icket Cflub shelved the- body-line controversy by appointing a sub-com-mittee!. A plain answer was called for to. Australia’s plain question, but tils'. Hairyicbone C'lr.'b has preferred the line of least resistance in a. belief that a diplomatic silence would help to bridge the gulf threatening to separate England and Australia. It is felt that an outspoken condemnation of Australia’s action, would only widen the breach, and would probably . resuilt . in. the cancellation of the next Australian tour, this meana tremendous loss to English county cricket.
Mr E. Hendren said that he hoped the M.C.C. Sub-Committee would reach an amicable settlement. He added: “We have had one nasty knock as the result cf the leg theory. We don’t want another.”
