OLD MAN’S ORDEAL
SERIOUS INJURIES IN FALL.
WITHOUT HELP FOR TWO DAYS.
DARGAVILLE, May Iff.
For two days Mr Peter Brown, aged 85 years, was without attention after having received serious injuries through falling from a ladder while repairing his shack at Maulc’s Gorge, West Coast, near Dargaville. The injured man’s plight was discovered by Mr J. Brownlea, of Mr A. F. Harding’s coast run, who secured assistance from Dargaville. It was found that the fall had caused fractures ot all the ribs on the right side, and that tho right lung had been pierced. Air Brown is one of Dargaville’ s oldest'residents, having been engaged for many years bv E. Mitchelson and Company when the gum trade was at its height. ■,
In spite of his 85 years, Mr Brown ledas a very active life, having in the past 18 months practically rebuilt his shack at the West Coast gorge, where alone most of the time, he resides the year round.
